FAIR AMBASSADOR’S MESSAGE

My name is Maria Pot and I am honoured to be writing this as the 2023-24 Ambassador of the Huron Central Agricultural Society.

This past year has been one to remember and I look forward to continuing with my role as ambassador. As someone who has grown up in Central Huron and attending the Clinton Spring Fair every year, I am the first one to sing its praises. This community has allowed me to feel part of something bigger than myself and the people I have met through all this have been a tremendous support to me as I have grown up.

In the past couple of years I have experienced a renewed enthusiasm for leadership and volunteering and am now looking to give back to this community that has impacted me so positively. I am so pleased that this fair has given me the opportunity to do so.

Growing up on a family farm, I developed a deep-rooted passion for agriculture from a young age. I have continued to pursue this passion by pursuing an education through the Ontario Agricultural College at the University of Guelph. It is through these experiences that I have come to understand the importance and depth of agricultural ties throughout our communities. This is what makes our fair so important. Our Clinton Spring Fair serves as a crucial platform to showcase the rich tapestry of our farming heritage. It's a celebration of our strong agricultural roots, where farmers and community members come together to display their hard work and dedication. The fair not only highlights the diversity of our agricultural practices but also provides an opportunity for the community to connect with and appreciate the importance of agriculture in our daily lives.

This fair and the ambassador program have also given me an awesome opportunity to explore my leadership potential. In exploring my leadership potential, I've engaged in numerous learning experiences that have honed my skills. Through events like the OAAS convention and active involvement in fair activities, I've sharpened my networking, public speaking, and engagement abilities.

Looking ahead to the District 8 competition and the CNE, I'm eager to further enhance my public speaking and interviewing skills. Reflecting on my leadership journey, I've realized the profound impact of networking. Meeting key community figures and fellow ambassadors across Ontario has been invaluable.

These connections will undoubtedly shape my future endeavours. I look forward to deepening these friendships and getting more involved in my community. I want to thank the Huron Central Agricultural Society for all the work they put into putting on the Clinton Spring Fair every year and for providing me the opportunity to be an ambassador of my community. I am so excited for what is yet to come.

Maria Pot 2023-2024 Huron Central Agricultural Society Ambassador
